The Acholi Quarter Youth News is a newspaper started up by Akena Peter, then aged 12, who is a member of Butterfly North, a sub-section of the Butterfly Project for remote rural children from Northern Uganda. Peter developed a group of children aged 10-15 to help seek out news in the local Acholi Quarter slum district. During, he published three issues of the newspaper, which was circulated to children throughout the slum area. It reported on events, like a rockfall in the local quarry, which killed a local man, touched on the subject of trafficking and other controversial issues, such as children collecting scrap. Peter had not used a computer before 2010, yet he managed to put the newspaper together, typing all of the words himself.
