Imagine Us Here is an art project based in slum districts of Kampala, which took place in 2010. The aim of the project was to discover young artists and give them professional art training from Kampala painters, but also to give them an opportunity to express themselves in art, with regard to their environent, hence "Imagine Us Here". In 2011, this project became OPOP Art, when the children were given training in portraiture and how to paint the body. OPOP stood for Our Portraits, Our People. In both years, the project was successful in discovering exceptional new talent and we exhibited the work in both years at the Bayimba Arts Festival, the premier arts event in the Kampala calendar. We have very fortunate to have a number of professional artists help us on the project, notably Yusuf Ssali, Bruno Ruganzu, Damba Musoke, Sheila Black and local Acholi artist, John Okot, who was responsible for most of the intensive training of the members. The ages ranged from 11-18.
