I’m concerned about the state of the world today. Consumerism and distribution of wealth has brought humanity to a place that can’t be maintained.
Yet I and my team believe that, through giving communities the tools required to give voice to their needs and what they have to offer, we can draw together the resources to solve these challenges together. So we’ve been building solutions that provide a means.
In looking at the roots of the problems we face we kept coming back to the need for economic empowerment. Why? Our current systems are not designed for the interconnectedness through which life depends, and until they are, reducing the wealth gap can’t be done.
Let’s think about this for a minute. These systems haven't been in place all that long, and since they began, a whole host of alternatives have stepped up.
What’s more – at a time when so many are struggling to find work – most of today’s economy came about by serving the needs of the wealthiest among us, leaving most of us – around 90% – underserved. This is an important opportunity.
What if we use this market to replace old ways of doing business, where the more you have the easier it is to get ahead – banks, the stock exchange – with new ways of working that mean the more we come together, the more we can do be and create?
So here’s our contribution. The Citizens Media® (CM): a new model for for making existing ways of working obsolete.
Key partnerships for making this happen are already in place. Our currency partner Qoin have developed a secure, mobile friendly currency exchange, the P2P Foundation bringing with them the legal and co-operative business expertise, and Manzimvula are community engagement practitioners who understand what it means to connect with the people we want to serve.
We all have something unique to give and we all want freedom: to have a voice, to feed our families and to contribute not only to our own well being, but that of our communities and humanity as a whole. The Citizens Media® provides an easy to engage opportunity for making this so.
